Chronicle-2014

ARTS @ Kearsney Dramatic Art 2014 marked my tenth year as head of dramatic arts at the College. DRAMA HONOURS Langelihle Mhlongo (re-award) Rtayu Pattundeen Yanga Mazwai Morena Malakoana Joshua Prinn Sibongakonke Kheswa 100 The six Drama Honours recipients and the phenomenal numbers for the grade 10 class for 2015, make a fitting tribute to this decade. The grade 12s were a very talented group who fared well in their final year at the College. The grade 10 and 11 boys are showing promise in maintaining the high standards set by their seniors. Engaging in various dramatic styles has allowed them to explore their talents and has resulted in exciting practical performances. The various performance platforms offered to the boys include showcases, workshops, school functions, assemblies, the inter house plays and the one act play festival. These platforms offer the boys an opportunity to hone their dramatic skills. Introducing dramatic arts as a fully-fledged subject at grade 8 and 9 level has served to further cement the subject at the College. Boys are now able to experience all that the subject has to offer and are able to make an informed decision in terms of their subject package. Michael von Bardeleben was a welcome addition to the department and made an exciting and engaging teacher. He has instilled in the boys a love and respect for the subject. Michael shared a warm relationship with the Drama boys especially those involved in public performances. He maintained an exciting balance between fun and learning and won the respect and admiration of the boys. He is going to be sorely missed.
