113 SPORT Overview The impor tance of the high performance programme in conditioning our spor tsman is unquestionable. This has been achieved through the continuous monitoring of attendance and progress repor ts. Due to limited space in the gym, and in order to optimise time, a termly schedule has been devised for each spor ting code. It is very encouraging to see that the 1st XI hockey squad have embraced the programme and have been working extremely hard on their pre-season conditioning. Testing has already shown significant improvement in their fitness and conditioning compared to the end of the season. We continuously improve the programme with the input of the team of biokineticists and this year the various squads have been given holiday programmes to maintain their fitness levels. The Easter rugby festival is now the premium schools’ rugby festival in the country and we attract many of the top rugby schools. The exception is theWestern Cape schools and while we are unsure as to the exact reason, the Headmaster has made a visit to the region and met with various principals to entice them. SACS has made a commitment to attend in 2015 and their attendance will add value to the festival. One of the reasons for the success of the festival, is that many of the Kearsney staff volunteer their services over the weekend. This commitment and the fact that we operate as a welloiled team definitely ensures a hugely successful festival. This year we made use of many professional and semi-professional coaches to ensure that our boys are exposed to the very best coaching available. It is becoming increasingly difficult to find qualified academic staff who coach at the demanding level required. My thanks are extended to the following coaches: Basketball Craig Gillcrest, Kyle Maclean, Nkosi Buthelezi, Ziphilo Mthembu and Sifiso Mthembu Canoeing Brendon Cooper Cricket Jon Kent, Dean Seals and Matt Laskey Cross Country Sandile Lembetha Hockey Sihle Ntuli and Robbie Veldhuizen Rugby Holroyd and Goodenough, Nico Breedt, Gavin Scott, Alan Zondagh, Soccer Matt Laskey and Dean Seals Tennis Alan Cairns Waterpolo Chris Reardon In closing I would like to take this oppor tunity to thank all the coaches who have given up hours of family time to accompany boys to festivals and tournaments during the holidays. My thanks are also extended to the parents and old boys for their positive suppor t. It is appreciated by both the staff and boys. Keith Thompson
