Chronicle-2014

121 CRICKET U 14A At the star t of the year, the boys embarked as a very inexperienced team. This, however, did not stop them playing the game with intensity. Maritzburg College was our first opponent we were aware that they are one of the strongest teams in the country. It was a tough game that saw us come back to win after having been behind with one quar ter to go. Beating them allowed us to develop confidence and courage, which buoyed us through the season. We finished the opening season strongly with five wins in a row, beating Glenwood and Michaelhouse by good margins. We entered the closing season with high hopes and made history as the first unbeaten Kearsney team. The campaign began well with wins against Clifton, Alexandra and Glenwood. The return match against Maritzburg College was a nail-biter, but we eventually won by 2 points, and we just kept on winning! I have no doubt that this team will continue to grow and will maintain this level of achievement in 2015. I extend a huge thank you to Mr Buthelezi for all of his time coaching. The boys’ achievement is also due to his talent, enthusiasm and commitment. N. Buthelezi Played: 14 Won: 14 U 14B Many of these players were new to the spor t but enthusiastically embraced their chosen spor t.The boys remained committed throughout the year and as some of their skills develop they will become really good players. This will add even more suppor t to a very strong A team. No shor tage of energy was on display, with boys working hard to improve their skills and ensuring that they got the basics right. It proved to be a successful season, par ticularly in the opening season in which we only lost two games – and by narrow margins at that. The closing season did not prove to be as successful, but the season ended on a high with a hardfought victory against St Charles. It has been a pleasure to be involved with an enthusiastic group of boys who have played the game in the correct spirit throughout.
