125 CRICKET CRICKET 1ST XI Back row: J Stamatis, J Crouch, G Hudson, S Pau, R Baker, M Watts, M Lees, K Rencken, M Carlson Front row: R Koekemoer, L Smith, T Tedder (captain), Mr van Ellewee (coach), K Foss, F van der Merwe, J Tedder 1ST XI A very young and inexperienced team attended the independent school festival at Bishops at the beginning of the year. It soon became clear that these boys were determined to do well and would tackle any challenge that came their way. This stood them in good stead as they picked up three very good wins against Bishops, Hale and Churchie (top boys’ schools from Australia). Back in KZN, the team was strengthened by the return of senior players Tristan Tedder, Luke Smith, Keegan Foss and Francois van der Merwe who lead from the front. Under their able mentorship, the youngsters did not just step up to the plate, but contributed hugely to the successes of the team. Playing against top opposition, the 1st XI proved that they could mix it with the best. They finished the year with eight wins in a row, including the two big scalps of Maritzburg College and Westville. This underlines the progress this young team made and bares testament to the work ethic, spirit and positive attitude of the team. I wish to thank Gareth Moerdyk for his suppor t and contribution to the team and to John Kent for his exper t knowledge and input. My special thanks are extended to the parents who travelled all over the country to suppor t the team.
