Although the team practices at Victoria often during the year, we had a very disappointing tournament. Greg Mckay managed to come tie four th but the rest of the team failed to produce much quality over the 36 holes.The team came four th. The final round was played at Cotswold Downs. At the end of the four qualifying rounds Greg Mckay and James Kennedy were selected for the KZN schools U 18A team to play at the IPT in Alber ton during the October holidays. Reading CC hosted and Greg Mckay did well to tie in second place. He was thus selected once again for the SA schools team. KZN amateur competitions Greg Mckay had an impressive year in the amateur ranks. As the 2013 KZN U 23 champion he was selected to represent KZN at the U 23 IPT and had a number of excellent results. He was also selected for the South African U 19 team to play against African countries in Pretoria. Internal competitions and awards The College championships were held over 36 holes at Cotswold Downs in the second term. Greg Mckay was fairly dominant beating James Kennedy comfor tably. He even recorded a hole in one on the 7th hole. In the matchplay that followed James and Greg met in the final.The match was a tight affair and the two were tied after 18 holes. In the nine hole playoff, Greg managed to beat James 3 and 2.Tim Bean was awarded the best junior trophy for 2014. Our ‘dads and lads’ tour to Johannesburg was a good oppor tunity for quality time on the golf course. We played at Royal Johannesburg, Houghton CC, Copperleaf and Ebotse. Each night there were stories of near misses and the course got better with each day. My thanks are extended to Andy Bean for organising access to these exciting courses. Golf is in an interesting phase at Kearsney with some exciting juniors coming up through the ranks and I am confident that we will continue to produce excellent results. I would like to thank the team at Cotswold Downs for their valued suppor t in growing the game.
