141 HOCKEY 2ND XI The team had a fantastic season. From the star t, the team was motivated, working hard to improve and maintain their skills.The most impressive and rewarding aspect of the team was their remarkably positive attitude and their thorough enjoyment of the game . The highlight of the season was winning the festival at Crawford La Lucia, scoring 20 goals in total and conceding only 1.The rest of the season was punctuated by convincing wins and tight draws and only two narrow losses.The team’s enthusiasm and drive was enhanced by their willingness to give their all for each other.This spirit saw the team through many tight matches, more often than not leading to victory. I would like to thank Michael von Badeleben for his invaluable suppor t, as well as captain Nick Dawson. My thanks are also extended to the matrics who led by example. Dougan Macdonald Played: 16 Won: 11 Lost: 2 Drew: 3 3RD XI The season was one of sheer commitment, sound results, unmatched camaraderie and great fun. It was encouraging to see the boys pitching up regularly for weekly practises.We were for tunate to have depth in our senior hockey and our team had some talented players. The most striking feature of this team, was the way in which they encouraged one another whilst they were playing and the way in which they played as a team.Their behaviour was often remarked upon by the opposition as exemplary and it was undoubtedly, a very successful season. A total of 33 goals were scored during the season and mention must be made of the Butler brothers (Matthew and Hayden), who were a formidable combination. My appreciation is also expressed for Kian Futter, our goalkeeper, who stepped up to the plate when we star ted the season without a keeper. He did a marvellous job, considering he had never played in this position. The highlights of our season were undoubtedly our wins against Hilton, Nor thwood, St Stithians and Glenwood. It was a privilege for me to coach this team and I wish our leavers well.
