171 SOCCER U 14A The season began at a torrid pace with convincing wins against Nor thwood; Hillcrest; DHS and Kloof. Against Michaelhouse we were complacent and allowed two early goals, putting us on the back foot. We fought hard but could only score one goal and left it too late to get an equaliser or winner. Thereafter, good team work saw us obtain wins against Thomas More and Hilton. A solid game against a very good Clifton side saw us defend well, only to allow them one oppor tunity which they buried, winning the game. Two goalless draws against well-drilled St Charles and Westville sides, ended the season. The players began their Kearsney soccer careers with good grounding and with some hard work. They will improve on these results as they progress and, hopefully, make a successful 1st XI. A special mention must be made of Jordan Kellaway who captained the side, setting a fantastic example of how to play the game. They came back in true Kearsney style, winning the next three games. This was followed by a loss against St Charles in the dying moments of the game due to a bizarre clearance from the goalkeeper (which saw the high wind carry the ball into the open net) . However, we ended the season on a high note with well-earned wins against Hilton and Westville. PJ Stroebel Played: 8 Won: 5 Lost: 3 U 14 C This team had an unfor tunate star t to the season losing the first match against a determined Nor thwood side. The boys picked themselves up and scored a total of 21 goals in the next five matches.Victories over DHS, Clifton, St Charles and Thomas More motivated the boys even more. We were unfor tunate to draw our games against our rivals Michaelhouse and Hilton. During the last match of the season the boys faced a very strongWestville side and unfor tunately lost the match. I extend my thanks to coaches, Khetha Nxumalo and Cameron Kelly for all their hard work, dedication and commitment. I also thank the boys who were always spirited during practices and matches. It was an enter taining and successful season. Thinus Els. Played: 8 Won: 4 Lost: 2 Drew: 2 SOCCER U14A Back row: Z Shange, R Darby, B Proctor, A.K.
