73 Counselling The counselling and career guidance department has had an incredibly busy and fruitful year. All of our grade 9 boys where afforded the opportunity to have psychometric testing done in order to assist them with subject choices. This exercise will be repeated yearly as it has immense benefit for the boys and parents. The grade 11 boys all attended a one on one assessment with Kerry Coleman which emphasised study options, points for university as well as exploring their interests and assisting with career guidance. Kearsney was once again in a position to offer the matrics three days in which to write their NBT exams on the school property with Kearsney staff invigilating which always helps to calm the nerves. The grade 10-12 boys where all invited to attend the career expo which was held in February and which was a huge success with over 60 exhibitors attending. The expo was opened to the public and well over 500 students from Hillcrest high, St Mary’s,Westville Boys,Thomas More, Hlahlindlela high school, KwaNtebeni comprehensive high school and Waterfall College attended. This will be repeated in 2015 with the focus being on the careers that the boys expressed an interest in that were not represented on the day. The huge push for 2015 from a careers perspective will be to get the boys to utilise the careers section of the library more, with a view to expanding it in the near future. There have been a number of group and individual therapy sessions run during the year and it never ceases to amaze me how well these are received by both boys and parents and the significant change and growth that results from the session.
