89 ACADEMIC Review 42% of the 81 boys who wrote achieved distinctions (2,33 times greater than the IEB distinction norm). Congratulations are extended to Daniel Kolev, Gregory Royston, Edwin Bunge, Joshua Bean, Bjorn Steinhagen and Samuel Hansen who placed in the top 1% in South Africa for Physical Science. At the end of 2013 the IEB introduced Grade 11 bench marking examinations (the IeBT).The Kearsney boys fared well against other schools with Neil Lillelund, Matthew Maddock and Daniel Campbell receiving cer tificates for their ranking in the top 1% in the country. One of the goals has been to print and bind all of our notes and exercises into books.Whilst we have been doing this for over a decade with grades 10 to 12 we were very pleased to be able to introduce our own workbooks for grades 8 and 9 this year. Our hard work in preparing the books has paid dividends at all levels and we will continue to commit ourselves to constant revision and upgrading of the material we produce. We persistently strive for excellence, making appropriate use of technology and hands-on practical work to ensure our lessons remain relevant, stimulating and fun. My sincere thanks are extended to Bruce, Gareth, Steve and Tilly for their suppor t, dedication, enthusiasm and tireless work-ethic. Sue Murray Physical Science We are very proud of the exceptional results achieved by our 2013 matrics. They scored an average of 78% (16% higher than the IEB average). With grateful thanks: STUDENTS!
