Matthew de Oliveira – SA U17 Hockey selection Congratulations to Matt de Oliveira on his selection for the South African Schools Hockey Association U17 Boys Team to par ticipate in the 2nd Mirnawan Cup Under 17 Tournament in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, from 18-26 November 2023. Malaysia, South Africa, England, Japan, India and Australia have been invited to take par t. Matt was selected for SA Schools U18 hockey team earlier in the year. Luca represents SA at BRICS U20 Games Kearsney’s Grade 10 pupil Luca Sandri, represented South Africa at the BRICS U20 Games in Durban in October. Luca was par t of the men’s 100m freestyle and 50m freestyle relay team, which won gold in the two events. We are pleased to announce two exciting new appointments at the College, as Keegan Daniel takes up the Director of Rugby position, and Keegan Pearce assumes the role of Director of Hockey. A Sharks legend, Keegan Daniel earned an incredible 273 caps for the Sharks between 2006 and 2018, captaining the team from 2011 to 2013. Keegan also played 23 games for the Kubota Spears in Japan, from 2014-2016. Keegan earned ve Springbok caps between 2010 and 2012. A highly respected hockey man, Keegan Pearce has eight years’ experience in the South African Hockey Association coaching and South African Schools structures. Keegan is currently the Head Coach of the SA Schools Boys Hockey Team and the Assistant Coach of the SA U21 Men’s Team. He has been involved in two SA Men’s hockey team events as a video analyst and junior trainer. He was previously the Head Coach of the KZN Schools U14A, U16A and U18A. Keegan serves on the KZN High Schools Committee as the Head of High Performance and is the Convenor of Selectors for the KZN U18 Schools Team. We wish both men the best of luck in their new roles and look forward to our boys and staff bene tting from the wealth of experience and exper tise they will bring to the College. Kearsney Cricket Academy Kearsney is pleased to be par tnering with Mthokozisi Shezi to launch an exciting new cricket academy, hosted at Kearsney College. Shezi represented SAU19 in the 2006 Under-19 Cricket World Cup in Sri Lanka and earned a Proteas cap in 2014. He has represented SA Emerging, SA A, the National Academy, the Dolphins and the Cape Cobras.The Kearsney Cricket Academy will be open to all age groups from beginners to top-level cricketers.The academy will focus on skills development for all ages and skill levels, as well as coaching on the mental component, to assist with performance under pressure. Directors of Rugby and Hockey appointed Sportsman of theYear 2023: DylanWiggett The 2023 Kearsney College Spor tsman of theYear was presented to Dylan Wiggett. Dylan had a phenomenal year on the spor ts eld. He conveyed strong leadership skills that complimented his immense spor ting ability. Dylan represented Kearsney College in four 1st team spor ts: cricket, hockey, soccer, and indoor hockey. In all the spor ts Dylan played, he held leadership roles which was vital in helping his various teams achieve consistent success. Dylan was a par t of the highly successful KZN Coastals U18B hockey team in the interprovincial tournament.
