SCHOOL NOTES The following have joined our Staff since July, and we trust that they will all be very happy with us: Mr. D. S. Ridler, B.Com. (Commercial work), Mrs. A. Beatty, B Sc. (Biology), Mrs. ]. Gamble (Matron of Finningley), Miss M. Geddes (Housekeeper). We welcome the following new boys during the half year: Bevin, R. W. H. (Liverpool); Boorman, A. I. (Gravesend); Stones, D. (Gravesend); Albertyn, M."(Durban); Fisher, L. T. (Cowie's Hill); Metcalfe, D. G. and H. C. (Durban); Philips, D. L. (Tanganyika and Durban). The annual Garol Service took place on the evening of Sunday, December 1st. The weather was kinder than last year, and a large number of friends were present. The Choir rendered the following carols: "The First Nowell "; I saw Three Kings"; "See amid the Winter's Snow"; "Away in a Manger"; "Gabriel's Message"; "Dear Little Infant, born this Day";"Shepherds, shake off your Drowsy Sleep "; "Good King Wenceslas ";"What Child is This?"; "God rest you merry ";"Unto to us is born a Son ";"Good Christian Men ; Still the Night." The Choir consisted of the following:—Basses: Mr. C. O. Medworth, D. Crowder, F. Chick, R. Lund, L. Jordan. Tenors: J. Clayton A Mandell, L. N. Putterill, A. Doidge, E. Groom. Trebles: S H' Spargo, D. Johnson, P. Jonsson, G. D. Hill, A. B. van Aardt B Fox, R. Pyott, C. F. Miles-Cadman, P. Garbutt, P. Turner' N. Theunissen, O. Baumann, J. Nasmith, I. 1. Ives, B. J. Woods, and R. J. McLaren. Soloists: J. Clayton and S. H. Spargo. Choirmaster: Mr. J. F. Reece. On the morning of Sunday, December 1st, Rev. F. P. Evans, our minister, held a recognition service for the enrol ment of new members into the Church. The following boys were accepted into full membership: J. D Allsopp F Chick, J. Clarkson, J. Clayton, W. Paul, L. N. Putterill and L. Robinson. The long week-end was held from Friday, August 30th to Monday, September 2nd. Miss Snell, sister of the Rector of Michaelhouse conducted our evening service on September 22nd. We all greatly enjoyed her thoughtful and stimulating address. r- II passing of an old friend of the College, Mr. I. O. Balcomb, of Kearsney. Mr. Balcomb took an unceasing interest in all the activities of the school His son. Ken, was Head Prefect in 1931. To him and the other members of the family we extend our deep sympathy. 50
