DtntBAN High School at Durban Lost by 109 runs Durban High School won the toss and batted on a very good wicket, on a hot summer day. Unfortunately, Hulett had to leave the field at lunch with sunstroke. Todd took over as 'keeper after lunch, and considering his lack of practice, performed very well. The Durban High School batting was good. However, with the score at 31,three wickets fell quickly and it was left to Russell, <mr nutnber 5 of last year, to pilot D.H.S. to safety. His 63 not out was indeed the innings of the day. His shots were crisp and full of power, and he never looked to be in difficulties. After a very shaky start, Wannenberg waded in with a powerful 53 not out, scored in 44 minutes off a tired attack, and these two innings put the issue beyond doubt. Durban High declared with the fine score of 228 for 7 wickets, Procter having bowled steadily for 23 overs to take 3 wickets for 60 runs. With Hulett unable to bat, each batsman moved up one place. Procter joined Daniel and 44 runs were added qucikly; as the spectators were settling to see a good fight, Daniel was out, bowled by Falkson. Dyer batted well but was out L.B.W. as he seemed set for a big score. 75 for 3 wickets soon became 80 for 6 wickets. It was at this stage that Walsh, playing for Kearsney for his first game joined Kotze. These two defied the High School attack for some time, taking runs as often as they could, and Walsh played a most courage- ^ the wall all the time, wasa fineexample of fight . However, D.H.S. was not to be denied, and the 9th wicket fell at ten past five, for the home side to register a good win. Durban High School: 228 for 7 declared (Russell 63*, Wannenburg 53*,Procter 3for 60). Kearsney: 119 (Procter 43, Walsh 18, Daniel 17, Dyer 16. Kotze 16, Wannenburg 6for 22). 11th March vj. Creighton C.C. at Kearsney Lost on the first innings Since the Annual Athletic Sports had been postponed until the third term extra Saturdays were made available for cricket fixtures. But since this post ponement was made at the last minute.Schools fixtures could not be made. The Creighton Club were therefore invited to play at Kearsney, and this very enjoy able game was played after the usual summer rain. Creighton batted first and 4 wickets fell quickly for 43 runs. However, Mr. Tarr was still in, and that spelt trouble. He batted very well indeed for 85,and was well supported by Mr Hancock who scored a rapid 74. The rest of the side scored 44. Once again Procter bowled weU to finish with 5 for 57. The fielding was keen and little went astray. The Kearsney innings never developed, and it was with no surprise that Kearsney was back in the pavilion with only 56 runs on the board. In the second innings Procter and Dyer became associated in a good partnership, adding 69 runs, before Procter was out to a good catch by Davidson. 155
