Chronicle-1961

all manners of topics were delivered by experts throughout the day. We understand that it was a happy and successful Conference and we hope that the time will soon come again for another similar visit. We congratulate Stafford Glass (ex-staff) on his marriage to Miss Kathleen Rogers, on December 16th, and wish them much happiness. Archdeacon F. R. L. Brooke conducted his last service in the school chapel on November 26th. For eight years he has taken the monthly service and prepared boys for confirmation. His sermons have always been a model of clarity and directness, a delight and inspiration to all who have heard him. He now goes back to England tosuch Diocese as the Archbishop of Canterbury (an old Oxford colleague of his) thinks fit. During his final service Mr.Hopkins aptly voiced the thanks and good wishes of the school to the Archdeacon. The last service of the school year was shared by senior boys. H. R. Wade gave the address and spoke on the Love of God; J. A. L. Price and D. O, Coetzee shared the lessons; D. N. E Leitch gave the prayer; and D. and M. Adams shared the organ.' The service was short but well and sincerely presented, and it is a fine thing that senior boys should be prepared to give a spiritual lead in this way. By the time this Magazine comes from the press, we anticipate that the party of24 boys, under the care ofMessrs. Clegg,Neland Storm will have returned by air from their very wonderful holiday in England and on the Contient. Mr. V. L. Clegg has applied for and been appointed to the post as Vice-Principal of St. Stithian's College, Johannesburg, to take up office after Easter. Needless to say, we shall have more to say about this later. But we extend to him our warmest congratulations. This is indeed our loss. He has been with us for eighteen years, playing a prominent part as Housemaster and teacher, and we wish him every good fortune in his new sphere, and happiness to his wife and family.
