Captain: P. Markram Team Awards: B. Craig, P. cicn llocci, P. Markram,H.Shone. Colours: B. Craig, P. den Hoed,P. Markram. Honours: B. Craig, P. Markram WEDNESDAY LEAGUE: Our success this year has been most encouraging. In the senior section the A team moved from 4th place to 2nd, behind the League winners Westviile. The final league run and D. & D. Championships were held at Kearsney and in this race P. Markram came 2nd, B. Craig 3rd P,den Hoed 7th, and H.Shone 17th. Markram, Craig and den Hoed were chosen to represent D.& D. in an inter-districts competition held in August at Dundee. The U17 race was won narrowly by Craig with Markram 2nd while den Hoed was 3rd in the U19 race. The Kearsney junior team of M. Bryan, C. Campion, H. Markram and G. Wheel wright was placed 5th in the league, and while as individuals they have not reached the same outstanding standard as the seniors, they will make a very strong team for next year's league. NATAL: Markram and Craig were chosen on a number of occasions to represent the Natal U17 team. In all these races they were the 1st. and 2nd Natal boys to finish and on most occasions were in the 1st six places. At the S.A. Championships held in P.E. both boys had poor runs doing times slower than in the Natal Championships. Markram finished 6th and Craig 16th.Craig, being U16 has a chance to remedy the situation next year, INTER HOUSE: On paper it looked as if Gillingham would run away with all the team events. The Gillingham U13 team (R. Hewitt, W. Nathan, G. Hulett,C. Mungle,C. Charter)and the U14 team (H. Markram, C. Livingstone, M. Rattray, M. Bryan, F. Kraupner) won their respective team races with Finningley second in both cases. M. Waddilove(F)won the U13 race for the second consecutive year, and H. Markram(G)won the U15 race. The senior race was a complete upset. The Pembroke team of F. de Gersigny, H. Shone, M. Feinauer, C. Fwin and C. Gebers just pipped Gillingham to the post. The winner of the race was P. Markram in a record time of 28min. 24 sec. For me it has been a most enjoyable season of running. Not only have I kept fit, but 1 have had the pleasure of dealing with some of the finest boys one could wish to be involved with. Throughout the season they have acted in a responsible manner with a whole hearted approach. I thank P. Markram for the enthusiastic way he carried out his duties as Captain. He and Craig are worthy recipients of the honours award. M.MYHILL CRICKET Overall, 1977 has been a good year for Kearsney cricket. Apart from the 1st XI, which has done well, an encouraging feature has been the standard of play of many of the lower teams. The most successful team in the school was the U14A.This is a hopeful sign for the future. Once again we have had the services of Mr John Steele, an English professional attached to the Pinetown Cricket Club for the summer. He recently marked his return to the Natal 'A'side with 97 n.o. against Eastern Province. His quiet efficiency as a coach has contributed to the success achieved this year. Mr Clyde Broster, who has coached the 1 st XI for three and a half seasons, has left Kearsney to return to the Cape. During this time the 1 st XI has played good cricket and has achieved great success. I thank him for all the time and thought he has put into cricket at Kearsney. 24
