SWIMMING r* * mss ■la M k 3 m Once again we can look back on a most successful year. Our achievements for a small school, competing against far larger schools with their impressive array of provincial and club swimmers is a record we can be proud of. The only aspect that did mar training was the high incid ence of ear infection which is partially due to the extreme cold of the water durirfg those long weeks of mist and rain we get in Botha's Hill coupled with our fluctuating chlorine concentration, which takes such a toll on our swimmers eyes on some days. We beat Hilton, Maritzburg College, Glenwood, St. Charles, Alexandra High and a touring team from our brother school in Johannesburg, St Stitbians in a series of these mini gala's. In the Durban and Districts Senior Boys 'A' gala we came third behind D.H.S. and Northlands. And ahead of Westville and the other schools competing in this gala. We thus, as we have in the past, avenged our defeat by Westville during the mini gala series. TRIANGULAR GALA We swam this gala at Michaelhouse this year in biting cold. Our swimmers seemed 52
