TENNIS mm m mm Miasi 559 ■nHu HE WS W i 1ST TEAM: A. Kruger Captain, N. Engelbrecht, F. de Gersigny, P. Emmanuel This was the team which represented Kearsney in the Brian Dennes trophy in Pietermaritzburg. We did not fair at ail well owing to the lack of match practice and the sometimes casual attitude of the players themselves. We finished 6th out of 7 competing teams. 2ND TEAM: S. Patient, Oehley, Schoneberg, Rouillard The league which we hoped would cater for this team never completed all its matches. We fared well losing only to Hilton, but no log was kept of the results. APPLETISER - Under 15 Kearsney entered four couples, but owing to a new format first teams only played first teams, seconds playing seconds, there was no sectional playoff. This meant that Logan and Engelbrecht who were playing good tennis easily won the Second Team section but never had a chance to play against first teams. Our First Team of G. Mungle and C. Livingstone accounted for Hilton, Alexandra and St. Charles but went down to Pmburg College. These four boys had an extra pleasure in being invited to fill the gap in the abovementioned Second league when Wartburg withdrew. This meant 5 games of quite a high standard, for them, and they acquitted themselves well. Our third pair, N. van Noordwyk and D. Barratt won all their matches and so their league, but it meant little as they could not challenge other schools Second teams. Our fourth pair M. Green and R. Charter coped fairly well with other schools Fourths, but found the matches against Third Teams in the same league, very heavy. However, some good tennis and tight games were played andI think helped them improve their tennis considerably. 54
