MOSSOM/ A. BROMLEY-GANS The Kearsney Yacht Club seeks to serve two purposes. Firstly, it attempts to introduce as many boys as possible to the pleasures of sailing and, this year, nearly 150 of the boys who gave in their names as being interested in sailing have taken part in one or more of the eight outings which have been held for, this purpose. To have been able to provide boats for these outings, we have depended heavily upon the goodwill and generous support of many parents who have given up their Sundays to take yachts to Midmar so that their sons and other Kearsney boys could participate in the races which we organise on such occasions. We are also grateful to the Parks Board officials at Midmar who have given us every courtesy and encouragement. It is appropriate, too, to record gratitude to Ross Hulett and Paul Boorman who, during their years at Kearsney, have done so much to assist with the organisation of our sailing activities. Our second function is to encourage Kearsney sailors to take part in such interschool regattas as may be held. On I6th October 1977, twentyone dabchicks and mirrors were launched at Midmar by Kearsney competitors in the Natal Inter-Schools Yachting Regatta. Altogether, 1 17 yachts from 42 schools took part, and the Kearsney entry was by far the largest. What our competitors may have lacked in expertise they certainly made up for in enthusiasm, and we were pleased to have gained 2nd place in the Junior Dabchick section,6th place in the Senior Dabchicks and 7th place among the 32 teams competing in the Mirror class. Much of the credit for the success of our Yacht Club must go to Mr Ron Kode, a parent of two Old Boys, who continues to devote much of this time and know-how to fostering school sailing. YACHTING P.
