has eliminated this phenomenon. Should books in any form not be returned by the due date, no member of that form is allowed to withdraw books until the offending volumes are returned — an excellent example of group pressure in action. Another innovation that has proved very successful is the introduction of a weekly crossword available on Saturdays to be handed in by the following Monday - by the end of school on Saturday there are no sheets left. Once again, our thanks go to the Natal Provincial Library team under Miss P. Blythe, Chief Librarian of Coastal Region. They are always willing to assist in all matters and at the end of the year spent two days at Kearsney rebinding and recovering library books. Furthermore, Central Reference Library Depot in Pietermaritzburg has assisted greatly with special requests, mainly for Form 6 history assignments, often obtaining material required on I.L.L. from all sources throughout the Republic. Due to the large increase in circulation, it has been necessary to increase the number of library monitors and my thanks go to N. Cawood, M. Cowell, W. Hohls, M. Lewis, C. Pike, R. Smidt, LT. Smith, R.B. Smith, A. Stubbs, S. Taylor, A. Weyer and D. Westaway for their assistance during the year. A.M. A. STAMP CLUB 6^ At the beginning of the year, it was decided to centralise activities in the Library and Mr Arthur took over the Club from Mr Williams. Much progress has been seen, both in attention to detail and interest in stamp collecting generally. Regular meetings, mainly exchange sessions, have been held frequently and a large increase in membership has been noted. We have also been addressed by Mr J. Keogh, a professional philatelist, on two occasions. In his first talk, he advised us on several misconceptions in stamp collect ing and on his recent visit generously awarded prizes for the best collections on display. A visit was also made to the Natal Philatelic Society's meeting in Durban, an event enjoyed by all as we were really made to feel at home.- some of us even plucked up courage to bid at an auction held that night. As a direct result, we have introduced a mini-auction every term and to date this has been a great success. Mr J. Schreiber, S.P.O. Public Relations Officer showed us a very informative film on automatic mail sorting at one meeting, When looking back over the year, we can see quite an achievement for members of the Stamp Club and in conclusion wish to thank Messrs Williams and Arthur for their time and guidance given in the interests of philately. K.F.FORSYTH Secretary MOUNTAIN CLUB The Mountain Club has enjoyed another very active year of many and varied activities. The club owed its vitality very largely to an excellent committee of sixth formers: C. Patient, M. Hollis, L. van Schalkwyk, J. Clarke and C. Auret. Their enthusiasm and the constant stream of new ideas that flowed from committee meetings kept the club very much alive and extremely active. Once again our activities fell into four categories: Drakensberg Trips, Rock Climb ing at Monteseel and Craiglea, various day outings, and club meetings featuring speakers, films or slides. All activities were well attended, and invariably we had waiting lists for 'Berg Trips. We have been most encouraged by the enthusiastic support the Club has received. Highlights of the year included a magnificent slide/tape presentation on the Lammergeyer by Mr Reg. Pearse, author of 'Barrier of Spears', and a trip to the Wild Coast during the December holidays to climb Cathedral Rock. A new innovation this year was a Kearsney Mountain Club badge designed by one of our committee members. This is awarded to members who have been on a weekend trip or who have been involved in three Rock Climbing outings. It is already being worn by a number of our members on ruck sacks and anoraks.
