TENNIS Another year has gone and as we contemplate our successes and defeats a definite pattern seems to emerge. Our prestige is carried by our Juniors. Once over 15, two great decisions seem to loom large — do we take up hockey or squash and drop out of tennis? Both of these games reduce our ranks drastically. So, in the senior league of tennis the Denness Trophy — Kearsney finished 5th out of eight. Captained by N. Engelbrecht, the team of I. Oehley, F. de Gersigny and J. Wilkes were never strong contenders. We felt early on that the way was going to be hard and we never really had the resources to make more than "a gallant effort." One fairly bright moment for the seniors was the first ever Natal Boys Tennis week held in Durban during the first week of July. Not being strong enough to field a team of six ourselves, we were combined with other schools in the Kloof, Pinetown and Queensburgh areas to form the Highways team. Engelbrecht, de Gersigny and Wilkes made the com posite side captained by R. Hall of Kloof. Our Under 15 side played their games with a great deal of enjoyment and success, but un fortunately there is no local competition for these boys. An inter-city challenge is how ever played and C. Livingstone was chosen for that. J. Baker also went to the trials and 60
