of the game, but he lacked aggression at times. He was selected for Natal A and awarded Honours. M.GIBBS:An outstanding swimmer,he compensated for a deficit in skills by pressurising the opposition. He was selected for Natal B as Captain and awarded Colours. R. BARKER-STEADMAN:He is a strong and hard work ing centre-back and a good swimmer with much potential. VANLOGGERENBERG 2ND and 3RD TEAMS These two teams had mixed success this season against some very strong sides, but played good and enjoyable polo. The regular members ofthe teams were: 2NDS: K. Staats, C. Hampel, P. Moore, I. May, J. Rautenbach,J.Asran,D.Versluis,B.Takis,D.Tayler(Cap tain), J. Gibson,D.Scribante,J. Moore. 3RDS:C.Black,B.Buttery,Q.Squires(Captain),J. Nel, J. McKee, R. Upfold, S. Nel, R. Steel, R. Bordier, R. Pretorius,L.Nightingale,M.Flaherty. The 2nds and 3rds played in five individual games and took partin two tournaments. One criticism was thatteam members sometimes found it difficult to last a chukka which indicates a lack of fitness. However, this did not dampen their enthusiasm and enjoyment of the game. G.SHONE UNDER ISA This team improved greatly as the season progressed and ended up playing some fine waterpolo. This team was a joint winner of the Dallas Hutton Waterpolo tournament. B.Manson was the leading goal scorer, but M.Feher,M. Nightingale and M.Jollands scored many goals as well. The team was very good in defence and mention must be made here of T. Clack, who has developed into an excel lent goalkeeper, and T. Brant, who prevented many shots from the opposition centre forwards. This was a very spirited and motivated side with which it was a pleasure to be associated, and I wish them all an enjoyable career in the open age-group. Congratulations to B. Manson, M. Jollands and T. Brant who were selected for the Natal Colts team. Team: B. Manson, T. Clack, M. Jollands, T. Brant, M. Nightingale,M.Shire,M.Feher,L.Bosworth,M.Nelson, B.Cocks and J. Hunter. MULLANE UNDER 13 U13A:W.Brant(Captain), J. Bryan,G.Franz,G.Higgs, A. Martyn, M. Nelson, G. Neilson, G. Nightingale, B. Barton,P. Sampson,R.Slater,A.Smal Despite losing the first week ofthe season it soon became apparent that the U13 waterpolo was going to produce an exciting and successful season. The leading players in the group displayed exceptional tal ent and they were more than adequately supported by the commitment and enthusiasm of the rest of the players in the age group. Unfortunately the season was very short and time was too limited to develop really practised pat terns of play. Many players have the talent and ability to produce a pattern ofplay that would do creditto more sen ior teams, but did not have adequate time to practise and define them. With more time available nextterm,Iam sure that a variety of more imaginative patterns of attack and defence will be perfected and the talents of the players fully utilised.Thefollowing mustbe remembered by all in the group:"Only those who have the patience to do simple things perfectly will acquire the skill to do difficult things easily." The Under 13A team did go on to beat every team we played at least once and deservedly won the Ethelson Cup for the most successful team in the school. Congratula tions to all playersfor thisfine achievementand mythanks for a very enjoyable season. K.DECKER 99
