w m KEARSNEY COLLEGE CRICKET 1ST 1993 Top: R.Prestedge,D.Hipkin,J. Mackey. Middle: P.Smith,D.Verbaan,I. Ewing,K.Ewer,S.Ivey, J. King. Bottom: R.Drew,S.Groom,S. Hatzipetrou(Captain),D.Sudding,S. Frazer,A.Tweedie,K.Arenhold. Stuart Groom(Leg spin bowler). Colours Stuart was a key member of the team's attack. His mam moth spells with the ball very often reaped a rich harvest of wickets. He very often proved to be a match winner, bowling sides out with his accurate leg spinners. As a tailender he very often weighed in with a useful knock, his most valuable being with Kevin Arenhold against Pinetown, where the two put on 25 for the 10th wicket to win the game for Kearsney. Duncan Hipkin(Opening bat) Duncan had a good first quarter where he played with con fidence, the highlight heing a solid 47 against Westville. Unfortunately he then suffered a slump in form and confi dence. He must leam to relax more and not put so much pressure on himself. He has the ability to play very well. ScottSummers(Left arm orthodox) Scott came into the side as an under 15 and proved a use ful player with both bat and ball. He must just leam to control himself and play within himself. He has immense talent. However,in this game that is not all that counts. He must concentrate on this. He is a genuine all-rounder and must exploit this. Paul Smith(Wicket keeper) Paul came into the side as the result of some very hard work and proved to he a success behind the stumps. His wicket keeping is very tidy and he needs to work on his batting now.An excellentteam man,he should have agood 1994. This team had a reasonable year asfar as results were con cerned.I think the fact that almost the entire team played first XI the previous year put enormous pressure on them as the "cricketing public" were adamant they would be world beaters. Nevertheless, having said that, they did enjoy a good year as the statistics will show. Stacy Hatzipetrou did lead the side adequately despite thefactthat he had nevercaptained a cricketteam in his life before. The mostimportantchar acteristic of these boys is that they were 120 percenters who never gave up, yet they were gentlemen and always held Kearsney's name high, despite an unproved allega tion againstthem during Offord Week.I wish them all well in the future and hope they all stay in the game.
