Matches: Played 17 Won9 Lost4 Drawn 4 Whateontributed mostly to these fine results was an early realisation by all the players that the mateh was the ulti mate goal and that eaeh eontribution, no matter how ap parently insignificant, was as important as the next. Con sequently there was no griping about thwarted expeetations.A run saved in the field is as important as one made with the bat. A catch held is the equal of an unplayable delivery. The batting rested mostly upon Parton and Hec tor's shoulders - although Bowen progressed well and Leitch showed much promise. Parton's 612 runs at 51.0 average was a fine achievement. Once we had finally primed the bowling suffieiently to allow bowlers to have long spells we beeame much more effeetive. Nielsen is the best bowler buthe will have to be more positive and harder on himself physically if he is to progress. Heetor was the work-horse and Cole-Edwards is an exciting prospect as an off-spinner. Ourfielding improved and only acouple ofboys could not concentrate for the whole innings by the end of the year. Mention must be made ofWatson's slip-eatehing. Hector supplied the adhesion, the intellect and all those less tangible assets which a cricket team needs to win matches. He has outstanding leadership qualities, a nice understanding of taeties and with a little more flair. I pre dict a bright future for him as a captain. This very pleasant group of boys approached both praetiees with enthusiasm and enjoyment and, under the able eaptainey of P. Lamplough, developed a fine team spirit. Asthe bowlers learntthe value ofline and length, the bats men improved their running between the wickets and the players' expertise generally improved, with the pleasing result thatseveral players were promoted to theAteam. In thefourth team, they gained confidenee in their undoubted abilities, and hard work paid off as excellent scores (e.g. 237/5 declared v. Maritzburg College) and 207/7 v. Glenwood) were obtained. All in all, these boys were a pleasure to eoaeh, producing from 13 matches 8 wins,4 losses and a draw-a very creditable overall performance.
