Asthe bowlersleamtthe value ofline and length, the bats men improved their running between the wickets and the players' expertise generally improved, with the pleasing result that several players were promoted to the Ateam. In thefourth team, they gained confidence in their undoubted abilities, and hard work paid off as excellent scores (e.g. 237/5 declared v. Maritzburg College) and 207/7 v. Glenwood) were obtained. All in all, these boys were a pleasure to coach, producing from 13 matches 8 wins,4 losses and a draw-a very creditable overall performance. R.LAMPLOUGH Cross Country Kearsney had a fairly successful season this year and our junior A team(M.Austin, T. Pilkington and V. Zikalala) acquitted themselves particularly well coming 4th overall out of the 26 teams participating in the Pietermaritzburg and Districts Interschool Cross Country League. Both M. Austin and T. Pilkington were selected for the Pietermaritzburg and Districts U15team.ThejuniorB and, when numbers permitted, thejunior C teams ran enthusi astically and enjoyed a pleasant season.Atthe senior level R. Brown,A. Mowatt and R. Steel represented Kearsney creditably.M.Jamescaptained the Cross Country team this year but unfortunately could only participate in two ofthe eight league runs because ofinjury. At Kearsney itself the entire school took part in two cross country races as part of the interhouse athletics competi tion. Finningley won the junior section, and Gillingham easily won the senior section. The respective positions were: Juniors Seniors 1st G.Collingwood (F) 1st K.Ewer (G) 2nd M.Austin (F) 2nd A.Mowatt (F) 3rd T.Pikington (F) 3rd A.Borressen (G) 4th J. Lemmer (P) 4th R.Steel (P) 1993 was by and large a successful year for cross country. J.B. McMICHAEL Gymnastics We had a fairly good year in 1993 with two of our boys being chosen to represent Natal in junior gymnastics. G. Parry once again gained selection and competed in Grade 2 with C.van Schalk being chosen for Grade 3.C.Cronje was very unlucky to slip on his vault(normally his strong point). Otherwise we would have had three boys in the Natal team. R.Pearson coached during the rugby season and did a very finejob. G.Parry won the Payne Brothers trophy for being the best gymnast.
