Swimming The 1993 season showed amarked increase in the number of boys taking part in the inter-school galas. At all times we were able to put full A and B teams into the various galas and that meant more than 100 boys were swimming regularly. The A team fluctuated in the top 3 schools and the B team did likewise in the B section. The Midmar entries this year were disappointingly low andprobably had a lot to do withboys goinghome for the weekend. Nevertheless, the boys who did swim all com pleted the course easily, withMark Jollands andMatthew Gibbs both coming in the top 10. The interhouse gala this year was very exciting from a record-breaking point of view. The fact that the oldest record has only stood since 1989 is quite remarkable. The Guest of Honour this year was the headmaster, Mr O.J. Roberts, and he awarded the following trophies: Under 13^2 : Feamhead Cup -G. Jollands (F) Under lAVi: van Gorkom Cup - J. The Boys A gala in Durban, which is the year's prestige event, saw us fighting for 3rdplace withNorthwood.Dur ing the last 4 years we have managed to maintain a very high position in spite of the fact that we have very few club swimmers and the cold water of the pool restricts training considerably. On the night, however, we had to concede a place to Northwood by a narrow margin. Results: 1 D.H.S. 232 2 Glenwood 219 3 Northwood 210 93
