w KEARSNEY ■ cmmm SAILING 1994 Back: P. Coleman. Middle Row: R.Norton,R.Tyler, K.Kiessling,H.Cathcart-kay,C.Alison,G.Newcombe-Bond. Front Row: R.Pearson,W.Tindall, Mr A.Bromley-Gans,L.Moseley,P. Goldie. Sailing 1994 has come and gone and despite my attempt at changing the sailing date and venue during the first and final termsfrom Sunday sailing at Island sailing club to Saturday morning sailing at Midmardam, there has been little increase in the number ofboy wanting to sail.Dur ing the first term the Thursday afternoon sailing contin ued to be popular but the majority of these sailors play other sports on Saturday and would rather go home on the Sunday than sail. A few of the remainder of these boys are day boys who do not play sport on a Saturday and, moreover, are notprepared to take partin any school activity on a Saturday. Despite my problems in recruiting non-sailing boys to go sailing, the hard-core sailors continued to sail on a regular basis with great distinction. Lee Moseley won the Natal Inter Schools Regatta in the Mirror Class in March and then repeated this feat in the Natal Schools Junior Provincial Regatta. David Hooper was awarded his South African Junior Colours for sailing. This is a firstfor Kearsney sailing and weextend our congratula tions to him. I am pleased to report that at the Natal Inter-Schools Regatta we won the coveted Mirror trophy back again after a break oftwo years in which we were runners up. The sailors responsible for this were Lee Moseley sail ing with David Colman ascrew and Warrick Tindal sail ing with Richard Pearson as crew. As reported earlier. Lee Moseley and David Colman were over-all winners of this class at this regatta. A number of our boys will be taking part in the Junior Nationals and in the Mirror Nationals during the De cember holidays. We wish them luck and fair sailing. We wish to congratulate David Hooperon being awarded his Junior South African Sailing Colours and being awarded Kearsney College Honours for sailing. We also wish to congratulate Lee Moseley for attaining his Natal School Sailing Colours and being awarded his Kearsney College Colours for sailing. A.M.BROMLEY-GANS Shooting This sport is competing with the major sports, and just to have a shooting team is notreally possible.Westarted well at the end ofthe first term.Junior fixtures clashed with rugby during the second term. We entered a Senior team for Bisley at the beginning of the 3rd term, but nobody was selected as a finalist for Natal to take part in the National Competition, although I was hoping L.Nightingale might make it. Six competitions were held which included Alex, Glenwood, George Campbell, Pinetown and D.H.S. Kearsney won only one out ofthe six. House competitions were held during the third term. Pembroke won it quite comfortably. L.Nightingale won the Senior Championships and also got the highest average for the year(of86,5%.) L. KASSIER Kearsney Chronicle 1994 103
