Chronicle-1994

Tennis The Kearsney College tennis team has once again com pleted a very successful year. The Kearsney tennis team must surely rank amongstthe top4schoolsteams in the country. Highlights of 1994: * Winning all three Maritzburg Trophies (Denness, Witness,Bonnefin). * Beating Glenwood by 7 matches to 2,thus emerging as the top school in Natal. * Unbeaten at Natal Schools Beacon Week, despite playing without the top 2 players. * Two players represented Natal in the Schools Tennis Teams. * Ryan Baxter winning all 4 School Championships (U18 singles, U15 singles, U18 and U15 doubles ti tles). * The visit by Margaret Court(winner of 64 Grand Slam Titles)to coach and play with the boys. * The very successful tour to the Transvaal. * Rowan Groom and Ryan Baxter receiving Honours awards for tennis. On a sad note,Damien left Kearsney College at the start of the third term to take up a scholarship at John Neweombe's Tennis Ranch in Texas. He will not only be missed as a tennis player but also as a pleasant, hon est, enthusiastic and high spirited boy who got on ex tremely well with all the Kearsney boys. We all wish him well for the future and hope that his dreams of being one of the best tennis players in the world come true.
