Chronicle-1994

Their ball skills were good in general but as a team tbey laeked the speed of their opponents. This resulted in a rather weak attack and an ineffectual defence. A number of players were unfortunate not to play for the B team.Baker whose swimming was strong hut his positional play was not good: Buchan's goal keeping skills were excellent hut he lacked accuracy in the long pass. Foster, who was very strong on attack but lacked control and was weak at getting back on defence. Results: V. Maritzburg College lost 1-9 V. Maritzburg College lost 2-6 A.M.BROMLEY-GANS UNDER 15A Regular players: J. Dominguez Sharp, G. Jollands, A. Martyn,R.Scrihante,A.Smal,R.Wightman,W.Brant, G. Higgs, S. Luth, M. Nielsen, R. Slater, R. van Loggerenberg. The U15A Waterpolo team had a remarkable season during which they improved beyond all expectations. They started the season by travelling to East London to compete in the Sternberg Shield Competition. It was a disappointing tournament for the Kearsney team who only managed to secure 7th position. They struggled to produce any significant improvement in the first tournament hack in Natal. They then wenton to compete in the Dallas Hutton tournament at Kings Park and did not produce the standard of polo they had the potential to. This was, however, the turning point of the season and from here on the improvement was re markable. They produced convincing wins over DHS, College and Kloof, and then went on to play extremely well against Northwood, losing by only one goal-a 4 metre penalty goal in the last minute. They completed the season by beating Westville 17-1 which emphatically demonstrated their remarkable im provement during the space of4 weeks. M.Nelson captained the side extremely well and must he congratulated for being selected for the Natal Colts side. I am confident that these polo players will go from strength to strength and I lookforward to watching their progress through the first team level. It was a very enjoyable season for me, dealing with a co-operative, committed and talented group of young waterpolo players and I thank them all for it. K.DECKER UNDER 14A RegularA team players:J. This year must rate as the best and most enjoyable sea son I have experienced as a coach. The commitment by every player was outstanding and the turnout at practice wasexcellent. Each player showedimprovementin both fitness and level of skill as the season progressed. The results obtained by the A team are certainly the best received by an UI4 team in a while. An aspect that has been very obvious and an essential partofthe team make up has been their enthusiasm. The boys always gave of their best and that little bit extra when necessary. Pro viding the boys continue to build on their skills and en thusiasm, and do not become over-confident or compla cent,Iam sure that they will continue to perform well as a team. Well done to both teams on your 1994season.This level ofwaterpolo will ensure that Kearsney remains a school to he reckoned with in this sport! M.MACK 114 Kearsney Chronicle 1994
