The popular Pinetown Octangular was rained out and both the Prestige Meeting and the Inter-District and Natal High Schools Championships didnot take place. Thus our top athletes really had very little to work for and the fact that the Durban and Dis trict IA Meeting took place on the Saturday after we had broken up only served to compound our problems. On the positive side, Andre van Zyl organized the InterHouse Relay competition and the boys pulled out all stops. The enthusiasm was very pleasing to see and we had mass participation as well as some fine individual performances. Our Inter House Championships produced some excel lent performances with twelverecords falling on the day. In the Under 13 age group C. Message broke records in the following events: Discus 32,57m, High Jump Im 60cm, Javelin 40m 20cm, Shot Put Ilm 90cm, 200m 25,7 sec. He is truly abrilliant and dedicated athlete and Iam sure he will go far in the sport. L. Bush ran superbly in the Under 14 800m and 1500m and shattered both records. His time of 2m 06,7 sec in the 800m bettered a record that had stood for 30 years. Other records were broken by J. Rautenhach U17 hur dles, U17 lOOm and U17 200m. D. Woolnough Under 17 Shot Put and A. Martyn Under 15 High Jump. Gillingham House are to be congratulated on winning all three trophies. At the D andD lA meeting, the following boys gained 1st place2: Under 13 C. Message Javelin Under 14 U. Bush 800m and 1500m Open J. Rautenhach 100m and 200m D. Cumming 800m. The following boys gained athletics awards: Honours D. Woolnough Colours D. Cumming, J. Rautenhach, W. Tindall, T. Halstead, G. Henderson, S. Westerhoff, T. Wise. Ishould like to thank all the staff for their hard work during the course of the season and particularly those boys whoput in the training and were suitably rewarded. Three of our athletes have been chosen for the Durban andDistrict team to compete at Menlo Park inFebruary 1995: C. Message, L. Bush and J. Marnewick and all three are heartily congratulated. P.G.
