Mackey (Capt.), W. Lee, S. Ivey, S. Summers, J. Francis, S. Hipkin, S. Picken, P. Smith, R. Groom, G. Hunter, R. Prestedge, F. Pringle, M. Evans, and S. Westerhoff. They were accompanied by messrs D. Sudding (coach) and T. Richter (manager). The flight which departed from Durban went via Johannesburg and Rome to Heathrow airport where the team spentthe night in London and this allowed most of the boys to visit Wimbledon on Saturday 25 June. The nextday the squad called in at The Oval to meet pro coach Roy Palmer before proceeding to Kentin order to watch S.A. v. Kent on Sunday 26th June. The captain J. Mackey handed over tour memorabilia to Kearsney old boy Andrew Hudson,a member ofthe South African team. A very scenic drive to the picturesque Sherborne fol lowed where the team played their first match of the tour on Monday 27 June. This was a typical country English village where the boys were hosted for2nights before proceeding to a tiny English village called Abbotsholmejust outside ofthe city ofExeter. This was a farming school of no more than 100 boys, however despite their size, they provided stiff opposition for our boys. After 2 nights the squad moved up north to the beautiful city ofDurham,where3nights were spent and a 2day fixture was completed against this very power ful school, which boasted 2English u/19 internationals. The highlight of this game was undoubtedly a superb 128 by R.Groom. The team then moved back south to Bedford where they participated in a 3 day festival against Bedford, Stowe and Wellington College. The highlightofthe festival was a superb captain's knock of 134 n.o. by J. Mackey. Results-wise the team played 6, winning 3, drawing 2 and losing 1. The results were thus very good but per haps more importantly our boys were excellent ambas sadors for Kearsney College and South Africa.
