Gillingham House Report "An unforgettable year" is the only way to describe Gillingham during 1995. The boys once again proved to be a happy, competitive bunch who excelled in all spheres of College life. On the academic front, Andrew Buchanan was Dux of the school and ended up in the top 10 in Natal. As a whole, the house once again won the coveted Parke's Trophy. Sudding Haley House Report 1995 has for many of us been a momentous year in Haley House. For a 12 or 13 year old boy,the threat of boarding at a new high school is a daunting prospect. I remember the many bleary-eyed faces entering the school after the holidays had ended and realising that we weren't just prefects, we were counsellors and mothers! On the whole 1995 has been a great success. Since the beginning we have had at least ten new enrolments and additions to the standard 5 and 6 groups and have had no one leaving due to unhappiness. By maintaining high standards of discipline and keeping the boys in a happy environment, we as prefects have succeeded. The most rewarding thing is to see the improvement and development of the guys over the year. It has been an unforgettable experience. This year the difficult task of moulding the boys into disciplined 'Kearsney Boys'has been worsened by the disappearance ofcorporal punishment. The weeklyjack parades and lashing with coat-hangers have given way to many laborious, long-winded punishments that are sometimes inconvenient to mete out. I feel that we in Haley have been successful (despite a few hiccups) in developing a suitable system of control. The quality of boy entering the school is just amazing. On the sports field, the U14 rugby sides have played extremely well with our being able to field an U14 side for the first time in ages. The cricket sides have also lived up to the school's high standards. Congratulations to Mick Takis who has been selected for the S.A. U13 squash squad. Brandon Weir-Smith is an outstanding tennis player and has unfortunately left to attend a specialized coaching school in the USA after gaining the No. 1 position in S.A.'s UI4 Kearsney Chronicle 1995 25
