Sampson Although the team met with more defeat than success on the cricket field, the players enjoyed themselves and The season was a reasonably successful one, with 6 wins,5 losses,3 draws and one exciting tie. The team, a delightful group of lads, enjoyed their cricket and played and practiced with enthusiasm. Unfortunately it did not fulfil its potential. With greater application in batting and in the field, they could have been more competitive. The captain,L.Bush, led the side aggressively from the front, was outstanding in the field and played several very good innings. Johnson and Brown opened the innings and both played some useful knocks ofover 50 runs. Laurence was an outstanding fielder, a good leftarm orthodox bowler and a more than useful compiler of runs at No. 3. Groom, a most talented left-hand batsman, battled at times, elegantly and brilliantly. Cole-Edwards proved invaluable as an off-spinner, regularly taking more than 3 wickets a game and more than once he saved the side from collapse at No.6 with some good attacking batting. F. Cocks approached each match with enthusiasm. Erratic Results bowling was a major problem as was some poor calling which led to unnecessary run outs. V.
