U16BCRICKET REPORT Captain:G Gordon Regular Players:T Hayes,B Johnson,J van Rooyen,J Edgecombe,X van Heerden,M Botha, L Ground,D Bense,S Immelman,E Hansraj, and D Finch. Played-11 Won - 6 Lost - 3 Abandoned -2 The team started the first term with a big defeat against Martizburg College being bowled out for a paltry 32 runs. From there it developed steadily and the return match in the fourth term was a vast improvement. All the players developed as cricketers as well as personalities. George Gordon captained the side well and improved match by match ending the season offwith a captain's innings of50 n.o. against Westville.Other batting highlights included van Rooyen's 50 against DHS in the first term,Johnson's 61 n.o. against Westville in the first term and van Heerden's 41 against Northwood. None ofthe bowlers took 5 or more wickets in a game but both Gordon and Hansraj, bowling spin took 4 wickets apiece. Bense bowled with a lot of pace and often had the batsman worried whilst van Heerden and Hayes bowled a good line and length and Finch came up from the C team and bowled well at the end ofthe season. All in all it was a good year where the players developed and had a lot offun on the cricket fields around KwaZulu Natal. »K SMITH U16CCRICKET REPORT Captain:A Hamman Regular Players: A Killian,B Boschoff, M Rich,H Marnoch,R Kuzel,M Touzel,N de Charmoy,R Kleinloog,J Malorie, C Conway, R Kieley,C Morgan. This team improved considerably throughout the season. The players grew in maturity and knowledge of the game. Through their enthusiasm and love for the game, 120% was given at all times. It is my beliefthat this team and its individual players have the potential and drive to succeed in cricket at a higher level. »GSPRING RESULTS: Maritzburg College Michaelhouse DHS Westville Hilton Michaelhouse Northwood Maritzburg College Lost by 28 runs Rain Won by 1 wicket Lost by4 wickets Won by9wickets Lost by 47 runs Won by6 wickets Rain UISACRICKET REPORT Coaches: Mr F P D Cocks(1st Term),Mr W D Marsden(4th Term) Captain:S Canny Regular Players: L Madsen, M Aylward, K Connolly, B Barritt, C Ward,M Lombard, K Muller, G Butcher, A de Beer, R Muller. For a team with players that are as talented as this, they produced a mixed bag of results. Unfortunately there were probably more lows than highs when one reflects on the year as a whole. Lloyd Madsen was the leading run-scorer with 383 runs, which included 3 halfcenturies. Arra de Beer and Scott Canny also scored 3 half centuries each but unfortunately none of these The highlight ofthe year was probably reversing the narrow defeat ofthefirst term's game againsta very strong and talented Westville side'in our last match ofthe year. players or the rest ofthe team managed to convert these scores into centuries. Canny was also the leading wicket-taker, with 19 wickets. However, ifone looks carefully into details ofthe year the inability to bowl the opposition out was probably the team's greatest weakness. We were fortunate enough to be invited to a festival hosted by Potchefstroom Boys High in the September holidays and the team learnt a great deal about the game. We then came back to a season that promised much but after the fixtures against DHSand Glenwood were rained out we lost the momentum that we had gained. The highlight ofthe year was probably reversing the narrow defeat ofthe first term's game against a very strong and talented Westville side,in our last match ofthe year. »WMARSDEN 99
