CRICKET U15D REPORT Captain:Machell-Cox Regular Players: Behr, Wisdom,Swart, Keyset, Vermaak,Downard,Meyer,Hotchkiss, Hendry,Potgieter,Smith, Matthew. The U15D side was an enthusiastic bunch of boys that was keen to learn, which meant the promotion of a few boys to higher teams later in the season. The fielding at the start of the season was pretty dismal, but with a lot ofhard work at practices, the fielding department became the strength of the side toward the end of the season. The side was captained by Matthew Machell-Cox,and I would like to congratulate Matthew on the way in which he led the side. Well done to all the boys for the way they played the game and the enthusiasm and team spirit they showed when they played the game. It was a pleasure coaching the side and I wish them all the best for the coming season. »R KOHNE CRICKET U14A REPORT CHARL VAN ROOYEN U14 CRICKETFESTIVAL Venue:KES,Johannesburg(1110 - 7HO) vs Bishops-(50 Overs) Kearsney 128 (Baxter 25,Hirsch 24) Bishops131/9 Lost vsKES-(50 Overs) KES 50 (Kenton 5/10,Massey 4/29) K (Hi zy 12 earsney 54/4 Won by 6 wickets vsAffieS-(50 Overs) Kearsney 99 Affies 102/3 Lost VSGrey(PE)-(50 Overs) Grey 219 K rsch n.o. earsney 116 Lost (Bingham 40) (Bingham 2/36) (Kenton 4/30) (Baxter 30,Hirsch 21) VSJeppe-(50 Overs) Kearsney 206/9 (Hobson 46,Morgan 44, Kenton 21) Jeppe 140 (Ngoie 5/33) Won by 66 runs VSMichaelhOUSe-(50 Overs) Michaelhouse 306 Kearsney 147 Lost by 159 runs VSHiUon-(50 Overs) Kearseny 211 (Morgan 87 n.o.,Abbott65) Hilton 212/3 Lost by 7 wickets VSCollege-(50 Overs) Kearsney 192 (Abbott 74,Morgan 29) College75 (Kenton 5/13 incl. hat-trick, Abbott 3/5) Won by 117 runs VS NorthWOOd-(50 Overs) Kearsney 155 Northwood 84 Won by 71 runs (Grunow 50) (Abbott 5/25) vsWestviUe-(50 Overs) Kearsney 191 (Hirsch 44,Bingham 40) Westville 176 Won by 15 runs Regular Players:D Baxter,P Grunow, M Hobson,C Morgan,K Abbott,N Bingham, E Ngoie,S Kenton,M Robinson,T Davids, CHirsch,A Jones. The 2001 season has been a most enjoyable and successful one. The players have shown much enthusiasm and interest in the game and were always willing to listen and learn. The highlight ofthe season was the fitting end with convincing defeats of Maritzburg College, Northwood and Westville. The latter two had both defeated us in the first half of the season by big margins. We once again attended the annual Charl van Rooyen cricket festival(hosted this year by KES) where we came up against some ofthe stronger cricket playing schools in the country. The boys certainly learnt much during this week and were able to put this into practice during the late stages of the season. The side was capably lead by Houston and Baxter in the first term and then by Ngoie and Baxter in the fourth term. There were notable batting performances during the season by Morgan, Hirsch, Abbott and Bingham. On the bowling side Abbott,Ngoie, Kenton and Bingham shared the bulk of the wickets. With the convincing wins at the end ofthe season the side can certainly look to the next year with confidence. 102 »JA DREW
