U14CCRICKET REPORT Captain:J Sinclair Regular Players:S Bromfield,D Campbell, A Candotti,M Cominelli,J Gorven,B Musgrove, L Poole,L Quinn,J Ridl,QSanquela,S Tennant This group of very pleasant boys worked hard at their skills and despite rather poor performances in the first term, managed to swing things around in the last term, and finished the season as vastly improved players. Their batting prowess certainly improved, perhaps partly due to physical growth, but also due to a more determined approach to the game. Regular practices were held which were well attended with much emphasis on bowling line and length. When big scores were made by the opposition it was due to the expertise of the opposition but also in part to poor and inaccurate bowling. Fielding was generally good, with some quite amazing catches being held, but also at times, some relatively easy catches being dropped. Certainly, all matches were approached with a will to win and everyone gave of their best. Probably the most memorable game was the second game against Northwood on a very tiny Highbury field where the opposition was restricted to 112 runs, allowing Kearsney to win by five wickets after being well and truly beaten in the first term. At this age, sheer physical size tends to be a big issue and can have an effect on the final outcome. In total, 11 matches were played, of which 4 were won,6 were lost and 1 was abandoned halfway due to rain. All in all it was a very enjoyable season and 1 am sure that these boys' cricketing expertise will show steady improvement in the years to come. »JBROADBENT BEST BOWLING PERFORMANCES L Quinn 5/9 vs Michaelhouse 4/16 vs DHS B Musgrove 4/19 vs Michaelhouse JRidl 5/5 vs Hilton BEST BAlTING PEREORMANCES B Musgrove 35 vs Pinetown UI3A D.Campbell 34 vs Michaelhouse 27n.o. vs Hilton 43 vs Maritzburg College S. Played - 8 Won - 2 Lost - 6 This was an enthusiastic team that practised hard and showed remarkable improvement towards the end ofthe year. The lively and keen Allnatt twins set the tone and naturally talented players like Andrew Hipkin,Samuel Tennant, Kevin Fourie, Justin Taylor, William Scott, Matthew Pretorius and Craig Kidgell came to the fore. It will not be surprising to see some of these boys in higher teams in future if they remain as committed to the game(and enjoy it!) as they were this year. »MBISSELL 4 This wasan enthusiastic team thatpracticed hardandshowed remarkable improvement. 104
