However, rather than demoralize the players, this result had a motivating effect in that they trained and played harder in order to prevent such results being repeated - all credit to the boys for this positive approach. It is interesting to note that the goals scored were almost equally shared by the strikers - indicating a team effort rather than the reliance on one goal scorer. »WAMOS Played-12 Won -8 Drew - 1 Lost-3 RESULTS vs Maritzburg College L 0-9 vs Hilton W 2-1 (C Morgan x 2 goals) vs St. Charles W 1-0 (M Miya) vs KuswagUl6A L 0-2 vs Glenwood W 1-0 (M Miya) vs Westville W 3-1 (T Hayes,G McGloughlin x 2) vs Pretoria L 0-1 vs DHS W 3-1 (G McGloughlin x 3) vs Northwood w 2-0 vs Pinetown W 3-0 (G McGloughlin,M Miya,C Morgan) vs Michaelhouse W 3-1 (G McGloughlin,M Miya,C Morgan) vs Hilton D 1-1 (G McGloughlin) U14A HOCKEY REPORT Captain;C Hirsch Vice-Captain:N Bingham Regular players:J Taylor,CMorgan,R Fitzgerald, S Needham,D Baxter,C Dicks,C Kirkpatrick, S Divert,S Croudace,W Mulder, M Cominelli. We attended the North Ascension Festival, hosted by Hilton College on their astroturf, in the April holidays. Although the results were slightly disappointing,it proved to be invaluable as pre-season preparation. Most ofthe team had never played on astroturf before and they gained some experience ofthe necessary skills required, as well as forming a unit. The local season's fixtures produced a mixed bag of results, but when one looks deeper, it was encouraging to see the improvement in skill levels by all players. This was mainly due to the fact that most of our matches were played on the Kearsney Astroturf, which was completed in early May. This meant that the team played virtually all their games at home which was an added bonus. The highlights of the season were beating a strong Northwood side and drawing with DHS in the dying minutes of the match. Unfortunately, we weren't consistent enough in our approach, showed by our narrow losses to Hilton(twice). College, Westville and Pinetown, as they were all ofsimilar strength to Northwood and DHS.Carl Hirsch lead the side from the front at all times and also matured into a very fine player during the course of the season. I would also like to say a special thanks to Gregg Clark, who assisted me in the coaching of the team. The boys could only learn and develop as players from someone of his vast experience at international level, I know that I certainly did. Played-19 Won-7 Drew-6 Lost-6 »PKING (M Touzel,C Morgan) 112
