They thoroughly enjoyed their hockey and always played with a will to win. Kearsney was very fortunate this year as the astro was a great asset. Practices became much more meaningful and the expertise of the players improved by leaps and bounds. The team composition remained consistent, although D Brunskill was brought in as goalkeeper when O Kruger broke his toe. J Houston had good ideas in terms of positional play and certainly, as captain, led by example, having an exemplary work rate. All in all 2001 was a very busy season with 13 matches played, of which 6 were won, and 7 were lost. »J BROADBENT L 0-1 W 6-0 W 3-1 W 6-0 L 1-3 L 1-2 L 0-1 L 0-2 W 2-1 W 4-0 L 1-2 W 6-0 L 1-3 RESULTS vs Hilton vs Port Shepstone vs St. Charles vs Glenwood vs Northwood vs Westville vs Martizburg College vs Pretoria Boys vs Hillcrest U14A vsDHS vs Michaelhouse vs Pinetown vs Hilton Goalsfor:31 Goals against:16 U14C HOCKEY REPORT Captain:D Roy Regular Players:S Kenton,C Kidgell,S Sobey, N Osborne,M Hayman,D Greeff,T Davids, M Pretorius,M Schroeder,T Potgieter,J Ridl, A Bertram. Whilst this team approached it's matches with enthusiasm, it was disappointing that many of the players were not prepared to put in the same effort during practices. There are a number of boys with potential in this side who would do well to remember that success is achieved through commitment to effective practice. The everchanging composition of the team, due to unavailability ofinjured or sick players, meant that the team never really came together as a cohesive unit. For the first half of the season the team was ably captained by Matthew Swemmer who was justly promoted to the B side. The captaincy was taken over by Darren Roy who lead by example. »S CARTWRIGHT 113
