> X 0 eii m CQ O The 3rd XV had mixed fortunes in terms ofresults this year, winning five and losing five. However, this statistic does not reflect some extremely close and hard-fought battles. The opener against Maritzburg College was always going to be tough, but even the 5-43 defeat revealed some real strengths in a talented side. Wins against Hilton and Eshowe 1st XV began to show some ofthe strengths in the team, notably quick, mobile forwards and penetrative backs. However,a mid-season thrashing by Pretoria Boys' High(3-53)led to much soul searching and a change in game plan. Whereas before then we had been playing to our backs from tight phases, we decided to make more use of the forwards' ability to drive and set up good, clean and quick second and further Myles Neill-Dore and Craig hadlaw's inspirationalcaptaincy wasan importantfactor in the success ofthis team! phases in order to give the back more space. This, together with unbelievable commitment and determination, led to an amazing turn around in the following match against DHS, which we won 19-10. This was the first time in many years that Kearsney's 3rd XV had achieved this against DHS. Another match worth mentioning was our 3-12 defeat by an unbeaten Michaelhouse team. While this was more a defensive than attacking game, it once again showed the determination and courage ofour boys who came close to winning and only conceded a match-clinching intercept try in the dying moments. Myles Neill-Dore and Craig Ladlaw's inspirational captaincy was an impottant factor in the success of this team! »DGRAVES ■- 1 I- -T v: A 1*^ m Seated: G Grobler, A Goodenough, C Laidlaw(captam), MrDGraves, MNiell-Dore, MBarheau, KPillay 2ndRow:M Wright, W Crawford, C Kyle, NWalker, S Walker, R Botsis Back Row: R Duncan, A Howcroft, TNyasulu, B Briscoe, MDavy, A Apostilides 121
