Chronicle-2001

Roberts Cocks > H P3 O P A most disappointing season which was a consequence ofconstant disruption ofinjury and selection. In addition, the boys themselves were not really committed to train hard at practices. However,Greg Crowder,Andrew Goodenough, Wayne Crawford, Ryan Botsis and Brandin Haigh deserve commendation for their determination during matches. Spectacular passages ofplay were seen by both backline and forwards, of which most coaches would be proud. The season was definitely a success, with all the players playing to their potential and enhancing the game of rugby. Captain: N To Coach: S v it ii:. On many occasions we would only be able to choose the team at 3:00pm on a Thursday afternoon. Not only that, but many times we would have to play players out ofposition,so the opportunity for continuity was very limited. However, with all these negative factors this team was always competitive, other than the first match against College, and always gave oftheir very best. Ably led by Neil Touzel, we often had the opposition on the defensive with our scrumming and our driving play but we were y^ often up against much faster backline. This team wasalways competitive, M Tosiano T Hall Regular Players:D Adkins,P Dracos, D Duke, A Eox, M Garnett, P Hall, C Hayman,S Khoza,S Malanda,A Opitz, M Robert, M Schiller, M Shuttleworth, T Vardy,G Winchester Report: > XI E H O E Aftergames against College, players appeared out of the woodwork, keen for a piece of this season's action. This ensured games were played in an extremely competitive spirit, as evidenced by the scores above. Some aggressive defence with occasional imaginative attack were features ofa fast backline, backed up by a mobile set of forwards constantly led and driven by captain Mario Toscano. Two close losses against Hilton and Eshowe at Richards Bay taught us a good lesson in not letting down our guard whilst in front by 2 points! In all, a good season was experienced, especially by the eight matrics, some of whom may well have played their last season of rugby. The twelve players remaining will certainly play up in higher grades next year. 122
