U15A REPORT U15B REPORT Captain:J Bigby Regularplayers: I Kotze,B-J Bissect,C Barker, M Spires,J Sinclair,R Ferreirra,M Stack,B van Houten. The first match ofthe season against an extremely strong Maritzburg College team set the tone for the season. The boys were prepared to train hard and play hard and their skill level and temperament improved with every practice and each match. The team has participated in three tournaments this season and has brought credit both to themselves and the College. The first tournament was the Sapphire Tournament, hosted by Glenwood High School. This tournament is played in the third term and is seen as a warmup tournament for the forthcoming season. We were very unfortunate to lose to DHS in the semi-finals. We never really played to our full potential with many goal scoring opportunities going begging. The Sterrenberg Shield, hosted by Selborne College in East London saw a young and inexperienced team making the journey. The team was without five of the regular players, four of whom were competing at the SACS Tournament in Cape Town(as members of the 1st Team). Against all expectations the team reached the semi-finals and the play-offfor third and fourth position saw a very weary team lose to Bishops. The highlight was drawing with Selborne College(who lost to Maritzburg College in the finals)on the Friday evening. The Dallas Hutton Tournament sees the top waterpolo playing schools competing at U15 level. This year the tournament was hosted by Maritzburg College in cold and rainy conditions. The team reversed it's results against DHS.In a very closely contested final we lost 1-3 after going into the 4th chukka 1-1. This age group has enormous depth and talent. Istarted with 17 boys arriving for the first practice. (A team consists of a maximum of 13 players). The U16B age group were short of players soIsent 8 of my best players up an age group, much to their ire. Nevertheless, this move paid off as the level ofplay of the promoted players improved drastically. Those remaining played with tenacity. Numbers again swelled to well over 13 at one stage; their dedication to the sport was admirable. I would like to congratulate Thomas Stockil on an excellent term of captaincy and wish the team well as they go into the senior teams. »GCOLLINS U14A REPORT Ihave been very impressed by the team's improvement from the first game this season. At the beginning of the season we drew 9-9 with a strong Maritzburg College team. We then went on to win the Pinetown invitation, Ul4 tournament. The tournament was also a trials tournament for selection to the KZN Coastal Ul4 teams. With growing confidence we approached the rest of the season, but were not preparedmentally to face the pay back from the teams we had knocked out at the Pinetown tournament. After a shocking loss to Glenwood, not totally their fault, but probably their worst game of the season, they lost confidence and spent the next three games playing aimlessly. The scores were close, with the exception ofMaritzburg College, but the team just couldn't seem to find its earlier form. The final game of the season was definitely the best, and we were unlucky not to win in the last minute of the game. Congratulations to the boys selected for the various representative teams. »KGARRETT 143
