m Steve Camp(1971 - 1975) Perhaps better known for the wide range of creative children's books which he has produced in his capacity as external education services manager at Umgeni Water, as well as being a co-author of the history of the Dusi Canoe Marathon, has shown himself something of a latter day Ogilvie with Historic Pietermaritzburg, a collection of70 black and white photographs of statues, monuments, national monuments and other historical buildings ofinterest. Each is complimented by an informative text, never longer than a page, regarding the pictures, context and significance. Steve is also the co-author of "Paddling & Portaging". Clive Tedder(Headboy 1985) is a farmer in the New Hanover area and runs a business, which produces a large variety oftimber products, together with his wife Jenni. They have three children. T M'Terry' McKenzie(1942-1946) New Zealand."!received an Old Boys newsletter a few days ago and was sad to read that Peter Davidson(1941-1942)and Ian McLeod (1939-1943)had both passed away. I had not seen either of them since they left school and, in my mind, they were still young and immortal. In a way they were icons. Peter Davidson won the high jump in what was then a Natal schoolboy's record of5ft 11 ins, while Ian McLeod was a prefect in 1942 and again in 1943 when he was head prefect. I especially remember them as they both won athletic trophies in 1942, together with Ronny McLeod (19411944),Peter Young(1942-47)and myself. "I have a prefects' photo ofthem sitting next to each other. Next to them is JNoel Baker (1940-1942)who died a few years ago in a car accident, followed by the then head prefect,Ian CouttS(1935-1942),who died in 1962,and, next to him,John Allsopp(1939-1942)."! want to find out about John. The last I heard was that he was in an old aged home. Ifanyone knows of his whereabouts please contact me." Doug Metcalf "A few weeks after the above correspondence I wrote to Terry telling him about the memorial service for a mutual. In my letter I also told Terry that John Allsopp had just died from cancer in his pancreas, and that he had been living in a recently opened frail care home in Pietermaritzburg. His death brought down the curtain on the five 1942 prefects who had meant so much to Terry who started his life at Kearsney in that year." Bruce Clemence(1967-1970) has started a bookshop and photo gallery — "Coffee&Books" at Hanover in the Great Karoo. Peter Clemence(1971 — 1976) and Charles Foster(1967 — 1970)have bought the house across the road and all three are converting it into a Backpacker's Lodge at present. We hope to have a KCOBC dedicated bedroom! Hanover is asmall Karoo town on the N1,exactly half-way between Joburg and Cape Town, and half-way between Cape Town and Natal. Remarkably, Hanover is also half-way between Port Elizabeth and Bloemfontein,Upington and East London, and believe it or not,Prieska and Cookhouse (we could go on and on ) So.... there is NO excuse for Old Boys not to "Pop In". All Kearsney boys(old and new)and Masters are welcome to visit and stay any time. Alan Rycroft 1967-1970 visited earlier in the year. Roger Simpson(1958) is seen here celebrating his 60th birthday with some of his old class of'58 mates. 1 » -c 'm Standing: M Bryan,J Panton,J Barns Sitting: R Simpson 155
