Chronicle-2001

FINNINGLEY HOUSE REPORT It is a privilege to be able to look back upon a most interesting and eventful year that provided us all with many memorable events. Although 2001 will not be remembered as a successful year on the sports field for Finningley, it has been an enjoyable one ofdevelopment, essential for the future growth ofthe house. From the beginning, we knew that 2000 would be a very hard year to follow, especially after the great success that we had had in the interhouse competition. We were not, however, totally outdone and performed very well in events such as cricket, tennis, chess and so on. Within the house, we maintained the good vibe that Finningley has always been known for, and the house spirit always seemed to be high. Fortunately no serious problems arose throughout the year and I feel that the boys can look forward to a very prosperous future under the leadership of next year's marries. Finally, a big thanks must go to my prefects, Justin Howlett, Murray Logan,Lyle Simpson, Mushi Siwisa and Steven Booth. Thank you for your support. A special thanks to Mr Willows and the rest of the house staff who helped in running the house. Thank you. I would like to wish you all the best for the future. Once again, I thank the house for an amazing and memorable year, and I would like to encourage the boys to embrace their remaining years at Kearsney and the traditions ofFinningley. y*. I cannot believe that I have now completed four years as housemaster. I can honestly say that I have enjoyed the experience thus far. I really love Kearsney and Finningley and it has being a privilege to look after and care for the boys. It is a very demanding job and I sometimes do tend to lose my sense ofhumour(nor often)but I have a wonderful support system in Belinda who really enjoys the house and boys. It is very important for me that the boys are happy and that they enjoy their time in Finningley, but they sometimes forget that discipline and petty rules are necessary to ensure the smooth running ofthe house. However, the Finningley boys are generally well mannered and respectful. I would like to congratulate Rowan van Tonder and his prefect body for the manner in which they have run the house. Rowan's pride and loyalty to Kearsney and Finningley has no equal and he has taken his duties very seriously, led by example and has been an excellent role model. To Justin Howlett,Stephen Booth, Murray Logan, Lyle Simpson and Mushi Siwisa well done - their sensible use of authority and integrity have Spirit in the house wasgreatand it is especially encouraging to see seniors and juniors playing table tennis, poolandtennis together 33 .
