Chronicle-2001

enabled them to carry out their duties with distinction. I would also like to congratulate Justin for the manner in which he ran the S.C.A. and for enhancing and encouraging the spiritual life at Kearsney. The matrics have had a quiet year (lack ofself-discipline at times let them down)and although lacking in the sporting sphere they have been fully involved in all interhouse competitions. They have treated the juniors with respect and, through the mentorship programme, some very meaningful relationships were established. The day boys are also getting more involved in house activities and it is great to see so many ofthem sleeping over at various times during the week. The mentorship programme is growing and is becoming an integral part ofthe life in the house. The programme as you are aware was extended to cater for the Grade 11 and Haley boys as well as for the day boys. The Grade 11 boys acted as mentors to the Finningley boys in Haley House and worked well to such a degree that the mentorship will continue through to next year. The mentoring with the day boys did improve this year but I believe that there are still some areas that need to be addressed. Spirit in the house was great and it is especially encouraging to see seniors and juniors playing table tennis, pool and tennis with each other on numerous occasions. Some matrics took their juniors out for supper to end offa fantastic year. Finningley did not feature well this year in the interhouse competitions. The boys take the various events very seriously but we could not quite come up to scratch. This year we won the Finningley has some very talented hoys who have excelled on the sportsfieldand academically. Tennis,Cricket,Squash and Chess. The interhouse music evening was a very special one and all credit must go to Muz Sirenya, Wade Viljoen and Alex Hampel for the time and effort they put into preparing the House choir in which Finningley was placed 1st. They put a great deal oftime and effort into this event and transformed the 20 Finningley boys into a very successful singing unit. House Colours were awarded to: R. van Tonder,J.Howlett, S.Booth, M.Siwisa, M.Logan, L.Simpson, C.Leitch, T.Philippou, R.Canny,M.Sirenya, A.Hampel,W.Viljoen and G.Bentley-Comins. The selection ofprefects is always a difficult one. This year a large number of Finningley boys have been chosen as prefects for 2002 and I would like to congratulate the following boys on their appointments: School: Finningley: Graham Lewis Deputy Head of School Head ofHouse Deputy Head Leon van Rooyen Deputy Head Chris Hamann Brandon Crisp Haley: Thomas Ryan Daniel Bense Jeremy Dirksen Head ofHouse Deputy Head Deputy Head Finningley have some very talented boys who have excelled on the sports field and academically. a V ■ f. f i K 4 ■ 4.
