We were placed first in cross country,the Kearsney K and soccer, second in basketball, hockey,rugby, table tennis and waterpolo, third in debating, drama, cricket, swimming and tug o' war, and fourth in chess, music and squash. Congratulations to Pembroke on winning the A.H. Smith Trophy, the Parkes Trophy and the Top House Trophy. LEADERSHIP It has been a great pleasure to have been Head of House. Marc Parker, was a superb deputy and I thank him and the four other prefects for serving the school with all their hearts and for their assistance to me. THANKS I would like to thank the Housemaster, Mr Goldhawk, for all he has done for our matric group and for the House during our stay in Gillingham.He has been a true father figure for all ofus and we appreciate all he did for us. The other house staff- Mr Cocks,Mr Henderson,Mr Zukulu and,for a short while,Mr Charlesworth, put in much hard work to ensure the smooth running of the House and I would also like to thank them, as well as Sister Lee and Mrs Mnyandu,for a great year. At the conclusion of2001,1 can only reminisce over great times in the House.On behalfofthe matrics of2001,1 wish Gillingham the best of luck for the future and pray that all continues to go well in the House in the years to come. FHART HEAD OFHOUSE The highlight ofthe year was definitely the Interhouse Athletics. HOUSEMASTER'S NOTES Special mention must be made of the loyalty, hard work and commitment ofthe eleven prefects Gillingham provided for the College this year: Fred Hart, Marc Parker, Zane Bezuidenhout, Andrew Perkins, Tiaan Schoeman and Marek Wright in Gilingham and Peter Hall, Alasdair Harris, Wayne Madsen, Matthew Nel and Jeremy Wilkinson in Haley. It has been a pleasure working with young men ofsuch high calibre. 1 would also like to thank the members ofstaff who have helped make this year such a successful and happy one. My special thanks go to Athol Henderson,for so ably stepping into the breech while 1 was away on long leave in England during the second term. Thanks also to Sinegugu Zukulu for his hard work,dedication, patience and commitment as Assistant Housemaster, to Mark Charlesworth for his contribution in the second term and to Janet Lee and Agnes Mnyandu for all their hard work in ensuring the boys'comfort and welfare during the year. Finally, we bid a fond farewell to Fred Cocks, who is retiring from duties in Gillingham at the end ofthis year.
