PEMBROKE HOUSE REPORT * I r m m 0 1 0 ■/. m m From the outset I would like to thank all Pembrokians, parents and support staff for an enjoyable and interesting introductory year as Housemaster. The House was handed over to me as a smooth and efficient running unit and Ipay tribute to my predecessor, Mr David Knowles, for his great leadership and vision. The year produced many highlights and all the members of the House can look back on an enjoyable and successful year. The first highlight was the number of leaders produced by this outstanding Pembroke matric group. Two of the top three leadership positions in the school were filled by Pembrokians inBrent Taylor as Head Boy of school and Gregory Goosen as his Deputy. In addition, Ian Bester and David Lee as Head of Haley House and Head of Pembroke House respectively and them all can be proud of their time in office. Thefirst highlight was the number of leadersproducedby this outstanding Pembroke matric group. appointment was the fourth consecutive Pembroke boy - a great achievement and a fantastic year for all our leaders. Another highlight was to receive the AHSmith Trophy as winners of the Sports and Cultural Interhouse Competition. Congratulations to the seniors for the effort, organisation and fine example throughout the competition. Pembroke obtained first places in swimming, music, rugby, waterpolo, table tennis and tug-of-war, and second place in athletics, plays, cricket, cross country, tennis and "Kearsney K" and placed third in basketball, squash, chess and debating, and our only fourth place in hockey. The overall winning margin between the winning house and second place could be a record in itself, testimony to the outstanding efforts of all Pembrokians. The absolute respect the boys of the College held for them is an indication of their great success. The other Pembroke prefects, Jamie Frizelle, RyanMoore andMylesNeill-Dore deserve special mentioning as well as Craig Laidlaw and Siyanda Zuma for their appointments as President and Vice-president of the Kearsney College Student Council respectively. Craig Laidlaw's Academic prowess was an area identified to improve upon. Many structures and systems were put in place, andIam delighted with the progress made. Many individuals performed well and the first place obtained in the Parkes Trophy Interhouse competition is definitely the most pleasing highlight of the year. First places in the A H Smith and Parkes trophies secured Pembroke being crowned the Top House of 2001. 41
