MATRIC DANCE GLADIATORS 2001 Our Matric Dance committee meetings began by debating the suggested themes: and "Gladiators" was decided upon. We went straight to work preparing and btainstotming ideas before which resulted in a plan of action of infinite detail. It was a good experience, new to all of us, including Mrs.Isaac,as it was her first year as dance co ordinator. We worked late into the night, built up much camaraderie and had great fun. We also used a lot of paint! The big night finally arrived and as the glamorous couples left their limos they were welcomed by the Gladiators(the dance committee)under the shadow ofthe Roman Colosseum. This theme was carried through into the hall, which had been decorated as an arena surrounded by high walls, watched over by spectators beneath a twinkling evening sky all cleverly done with drapery. Two gladiators in action fighting for their lives with net and sword dominated the main backdrop. The tables were beautifully decorated with candelabra draped with grapes, and silver goblets. We workedlate into the night, built up much camaraderie and hadgreatfun. V A waltz was the first dance and the evening was officially under way. After the matrics had strutted their stuff the meal was served by the Gladiators in skimpy Roman tunics, much to the delight of the ladies. The real party began with the DJ playing a good selection of music and the stage lit by an assortment ofcoloured lights in many shapes and patterns. The evening concluded with the Gladiators routine, performed to stirring music, rippling muscles aplenty and indeed was the highlight of the evening. For the matrics the after-party awaited. Sincere thanks mustgo to Mrs. Isaac for her enthusiasm, the parents, the kitchen for the delicious meal, Mrs. Davidson for her assistance with the Gladiators dance rourine and the Gladiators for making the evening so memorable for the matrics.
