MOUNTAIN S A I LING CO UJ LU BIKE CLUB BIKE CLUB A group of really enthusiasric Grade 8 boys made up the mountain bike club this year. Regular rides through the Assagay valley were enjoyed by all and a few stories can be told of close shaves on some ofthe descents. Although welcomed by the residents of the valley, the tatting of most ofthe toads has detracted from the off-toad nature of the tiding. The volume oftraffic on the main toad also makes it difficult to tide to venues where some dirt toads could be found. Such is the level of interest and enthusiasm in the group that a trip to the Dtakensbetg area is planned for the April holidays in 2002. DCATO PHOTOGRAPHIC CLUB CLUB CLUB CLUB It was most pleasing to see the number ofJuniors who joined the Club this year. All we require from our members is an enthusiastic attitude and a willingness to improve their photographic techniques. While I have in the past used Club members to assist with taking photographs of the many varied College activities,I had to scale down their involvement this year due to their inexperience. Our Club members took some excellent shots down at the harbour. Wespent many hours in our dark room grappling with the time-consuming process of black and white film development. Our efforts were hampered by our nearly obsolere equipment breaking down and causing us much frusrration. Our Club members took some excellent shots down at the harbour but we will have to wait until our equipment has been repaired in the New Year to see the final results ofour efforts! Thanks to Andrew Bell for running the Club for the last two years and to James Shone who took over from him as Head of rhe Club. Hopefully our efforts next year will be berter rewarded. P ISAAC CLUB CLUB CLUB CLUB This year has been a very successful one for Kearsney Sailing. At the _ start ofthe year we purchased a new very good bringing number of to three. In this a boys sailed boats. Once started the eyes firmly fixed boat that is in o n d i t i o n , the total School boats addition to .number of 'their own again we sailing season with our on rhe Inter-School Trophy and after some hard, focussed training, we were able to regain rhis trophy. In achieving this Kearsney distinguished itselfnot only by winning 1st place overall. Skipper Dale Smith & crew Chris Dracos, but also the team prize, with Tom & Nick van de Reit coming 3rd,and by having three boars in the top five. This has been a big improvement over previous years. The 9-hour endurance race was the next on the calendar and Kearsney did well again in the mirror class. With the reconstruction of the sailing room now complere maintenance on the boats has become a lot easier and has made for a great place to gather and discuss sailing, receive lectures and pass on rips. Two boys of the sailing club. Dale Smith and Chris Dracos went over to Dublin, Ireland and represented SA in the Pre-worlds and International Mirror Class Regatta. Members ofthe club have been recognised by the College with Tom Vardy receiving colours and Dale Smith being awarded his Honours. Next year looks even more promising as we have many motivated and talented boys coming through. Our thanks must go to Matt Copeland who was in charge ofthe transport. His motivation and support was greatly appreciated. DSMITH 84
