Chronicle-2011

An established par t of Kearsney’s third term calendar, this year’s Upbeat festival was well suppor ted, with people being turned away from several sold out performances. The festival programme included the spectacular Scrap Metal supper theatre production; a hip-hop dance competition; an inspiring classical piano concer t; a variety of theatre and comedy and an interesting Friday night food and craft market along Founders Avenue. The Henderson Hall rocked to an effervescent rhythm when Kearsney Old Boys from four decades took to the stage during the amaZING! performance on the Friday evening. In celebration of Kearsney’s 90th anniversary, the evening was a celebration of musical genres from Old Boys, who provided individual styles of dynamic entertainment – from rock and jazz, to ballads, opera and pop. Highlights of the show were former Pembroke boys Terence Reis and Paul Basel, who, together with their band Slim Pickings, captivated a packed performance with their style, skill and charm. In the absence of Mark Knopfler,Terence is currently the front man for The Straits; working with exmembers of Dire Straits. Upbeat Festival Can’t beat this! The Festival’s programme offered elements which appealed to all age and interest groups 98
