103 Three courses were run: a Friday afternoon at Kearsney in the second term; a Tuesday evening in the third term and a Tuesday evening, hosted by the Jockey Academy, with other Highway schools. Each course is run over 8 weeks and is an adaption of the world-famous Dale Carnegie course. The Generation Next course has been specifically designed for 17 to 20 year olds. Primarily it sets out to develop young people’s EQ and is largely based on Carnegie’s best-seller How to Win Friends and Influence People - a copy of which every boy received.The course provides many oppor tunities for boys to stand up and speak and so public speaking skills are covered. Upon completion, the boys in each group had the opportunity to choose Dale Carnegie 80 grade 11 boys completed the internationally-recognised Dale Carnegie Generation Next course this year. This year, boys had the opportunity to perform and master new dance forms. Krazy Kayzo, a break-dancer who competes at national level, gave the boys lessons during the second term. Suddenly, strength and balance became essential to perform the intricate steps and manoeuvres. During the third term the boys were able to show case their talent in Kearsney’s production Scrap Metal, where they performed a stomp routine using sticks and rhythms as well as a freestyle hip-hop number. For the first time the boys competed in an inter-house dance competition with professional dancer, Shelley Wakefield, as the adjudicator.The afternoon was well suppor ted and the boys danced with energy and enthusiasm. The eventual result: 1st Pembroke. 2nd Finningley. 3rd Sheffield and 4th Gillingham. Tracey van den Aardweg Dance Club The club has grown steadily since its inception four years ago. one boy whom they believed best exemplified the qualities and principles of the course. It is the most prestigious award in the programme and Tim Pons and Jarryd Chapman were the two wor thy recipients. Bongi Mthembu was voted by those who attended the Jockey Academy course.
