When Vaughn went on exchange in the last term, Josh was called upon to chair the final dinner of the year which he did most capably. The chairman of the Inner Circle was Dominic Koenig who, despite his many commitments, did an excellent job of chairing the end of term dinners and has set an exemplary standard. The Inner Circle hosted a St Patrick’s day dinner in the first term. In keeping with the theme the chairman reversed the usual format of the dinner : beginning with desser t and ending with star ters! The dinner served as an induction for the newest members who most ably rose to the challenge. No dinners took place in the third term. However, the term saw a combined gathering of the Inner and Speakers’ Circles in order to compete against each other in the annual Inter house public speaking competition. Finningley emerged as the winners followed by Pembroke and Sheffield, with Gillingham bringing up the rear. The final Inner Circle dinner of the year was held in October. It was a moving experience as the boys got to partner their mothers on this formal occasion. The theme was ‘reflections’ and the boys took time to reminisce on their time spent at Kearsney. The evening concluded with the announcement of the best speeches of the year : Best Object Speech: Travis Pears and Ryan Holtes Best Evaluation: Dean Seals Best Impromptu Speech: David Gilmour Best Icebreaker: Patrick Bell Best Prepared Speech: Murray Polkinghorne Trophy for Excellence in Public Speaking: Dominic Koenig The end of year Speakers’ Circle dinner took place in November. The boys courageously took to the lectern to speak to an audience of over 140 people. The following boys were judged to be the best speakers of the year in their respective categories: Best Object Speech: Dominic Yoko and Daniel Pons Best Prepared Reading: Jeremy de Beer Best Impromptu Speech: Sean Miller Best Icebreaker: Matthew Last Best Prepared Speech: Joshua Brown Best Evaluation: Neil Lillelund Most Improved Speaker: TariqVasi Lamplough Trophy for Excellence in Public Speaking: Greg Keal Adam Rogers Public Speaking
