Chronicle-2011

116 Basketball The forward momentum of the sport continued this year. Most weekends we recorded more wins than losses and the boys’ attitude and commitment improve all the time. The College is shifting perception and can now see that our teams are being taken seriously by other schools as we gain respect on the court. The year began with a pre-season camp run by DennisWucherer, the German U22 National coach. Dennis’ input and coaching style did much to help raise the level of our basketball as the camp was well attended. We were also privileged to add Nhlanhla Dlamini, the current SA men’s team point guard, to our resident coaching staff as well as Michael Campbell, a former SA U18 player and Maritzburg College 1st team coach, who joined us on a part time basis. I was impressed by the commitment and enthusiasm of all the coaching staff who helped grow the sport from eight teams to twelve. The future looks bright for this young sport.
